Athens, Georgia – A couple of UGA students may have to live without their refund checks for a bit longer.
For UGA student Cruz Bennett, issues with his student account are causing his refund to be delayed. Since he hadn’t accepted the financial award offered to him in the previous semester, Bennett’s personal account was cancelled with UGA’s Financial Aid Office. Before he could accept funding for this semester, his account had to be reinstated.
“It’s super annoying,” Bennett said about the process.
Bennett isn’t the only one encountering problems receiving his reimbursement in a timely fashion.
UGA student Morgan Lee used her Twitter account to express her own frustrations. A mere 23 hours ago, she tweeted, “Am I the only one who hasn’t received my refund? What the h*ll UGA”.
According to the UGA Bursar’s Office website, “Excess financial aid (loans, grants, including Pell Grant, and scholarships) will be disbursed ten days prior to the start of each term.” Essentially, once all student fees are paid in full by a loan, grant or scholarship, a student should receive a refund consisting of the unused funds. The website also states that the refunds are direct deposited into the students’ bank account or mailed to their listed address.
UGA Student Accounts Manager, Shannon Lay, says “Nothing was delayed in the processing of refund checks. If students have an individual problem, they need to contact us directly.”
