Athletic Board Looking to Make a Better Gameday Experience

Athens, GA- There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere of a UGA football game, but for some reason, this isn’t enough anymore. Last year, an average of 6,000 seats went unused.

Student representative to the athletic board Ryan Scates explains, “At first everyone was like, well it’s because we aren’t winning. Well then we started winning in a big way and the students still didn’t come back.”

With modern technology, you don’t have to be at the game. Wireless and DVRs allow you to watch the game anywhere, anytime. One way to bring students back to Sanford Stadium is improving game day presentation

Scates says, “That’s something we are trying to do right now. Trying to figure out no matter what, when someone comes to Sanford Stadium, they are gonna get some kind of intangible thing that connects them to the university and connects them to everyone around them that you cant replicate on television. One example is the Masters. It’s much easier to watch on television but being in Augusta, they actually capture lightning in a bottle and make a special experience for all of their patrons.”

Scates couldn’t go into details about the plan because it is still in the works, but he thinks it will get people off the couch and into the stadium.
