Her name: Kharma Knight.
Looking at her face you can see why the community loved her so much. And these are some of the only memories the family has left.
Belinda Wilkerson, Kharma’s Great Aunt, describes her as a fiesty, funny, red-headed angel. The family is not the only one who will miss her. The Winder Community is grieving for this loss.
Belinda says, “Everyone who met her loved her.”
The fire consumed the house in Barrow County, injuring three family members, but killing the child. The house is burned down, and Belinda is so glad she has these pictures to remember her by.
“We know she is somewhere happy.. and she is safe.”
Winder Wesleyann Church on Midland Avenue is rallying behind the family. They are raising not just money for the family, but clothes, toiletries, gift cares, and even a bank account has been set up in their name.
For some members of the congregation, the tragedy struck too close to home.
Pastor Greg Moore told us about a husband whose wife recently passed. He was having a hard time giving away the clothes, but after he heard of this tragedy, he donated all of them to the family.
The family is overwhelmed with gratitude and wants the community to know just how thankful they are.
But despite all the new things they receive, they know nothing will ever replace losing a life.
Our thoughts are with this family during this tragedy.
Kharma Knight’s funeral will be held tomorrow, October 2nd.
