Local chefs in the Athens-Clarke County area will participate in a cook-off competition this weekend. Chefs from restaurants like The National, Heirloom Café, and Goodie Two Shoes will compete.   Each restaurant will be paired with an Athens-Clarke County school. Competitors will create dishes that not only taste delicious, but also conform to the USDA Guidelines for school lunches.  Chefs will only be allowed to use ingredients already in the school cafeteria.

The panel of student judges has already been chosen.  They will judge the dish on aesthetics, taste, and kid-friendliness.  The winning plates will be added to the Clarke County School District’s lunch menu for the following school year.  Reporter C.J. Gaan is looking into the idea and preparation of this competition.

12:00 PM: Reporter CJ spoke with Jan Hebbard, the organizer of the cooking competition.

She says she hopes the competition will improve the lunches around Athens-Clarke County.
