Bank Robbery Thwarted in Athens

An attempted bank robbery today about noon at Athens First Bank & Trust was prevented when bank employees refused to comply with the robber’s request.

Athens-Clarke police said Charlotte Hill, 63, entered the bank wearing a mask and holding a sign that said, “This is a hold up.”  Employees refused to give her money when she presented them with a bag. Hill then left the bank and drove off in a white van.

According to the incident report, one employee managed to get a photo of the getaway vehicle and police later found Hill’s car in the Willow Wood Shopping Center on Lexington Road. They found Hill inside the Goodwill store and she was taken into custody and charged with criminal intent to commit robbery.
