DIVE into Knowledge: Students Keep Learning During Summer Vacation

When summer break comes around school books are stashed away. That’s not the case this summer. A partnership between the Clarke County School District and University of Georgia College of Education will help local students keep their A game during the off months.

The new Camp DIVE is giving 75 Clarke County School District kindergarten through 8th grade students the chance to go to camp, for free. Art, food, history, and robots are just a few of the things the students will be learning. Janna Dresden, one of the headers of the program, says its meant to help students stay focused during vacation.

“From August to May, actually the achievement gap narrows. But then, typically research studies have shown it gets wider during the summer. So this camp is an attempt to eliminate that problem,” said Dresden.

Dresden also believes the program will be a great opportunity for the kids and UGA students to learn from each other. Spots are limited and registration closes tomorrow. If you would like to sign up you child, you can visit Camp Dive’s site here.
