Athens, GA.–A popular children’s author celebrated the release of a new graphic novel here in Athens. It was standing room only at Avid Bookshop last night where author and illustrator Ben Hatke celebrated the release of his new children’s book, Mighty Jack. Hatke did a live reading and signing of the book, and many people showed up to hear him.The two hundred page, graphic novel style book is a contemporary retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. UGA Student Faces Two Felony Counts

Athens, GA.–21-year old University of Georgia student Briana Noel Cowles faces two felony counts of computer forgery after violating her probation. Cowles was scheduled to meet with a municipal court judge this morning for the probation violation charge. However, the court date has been postponed to October 6 at 9 a.m. Cowles has appointed Alex McQueen as her attorney. Fifty Years of FoxFire

ATHENS, Ga.– The University of Georgia Special Collections Library will be holding an exhibit beginning tonight for an iconic magazine’s 50th anniversary. Foxfire magazine began in 1966 in Rayburn County, Georgia as a school project. The teacher’s idea was to get students more interested and involved in learning journalism through hands on experience. “The students interviewed and photographed their grandmothers, grandfathers, parents and other community members,” says Foxfire exhibit co-curator Dixie Gallups. CRAWFORD, Ga. — A man is in custody after a SWAT situation in Crawford, Georgia, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Mike Ayers.
