Georgia Representatives Under Fire for Refusal to Hold Public Meetings

Georgia senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga, and David Perdue, R-Ga, as well as Georgia’s 10th District Representative Jody Hice are under fire from many constituents from their refusal to hold public, in person town hall meetings with their voters. Congressman Hice hasn’t hosted a town hall in Athens since his election in 2014. Congress heads back to session: 3 things to know

ATHENS, Ga — Congressman Jody Hice of Georgia’s 10th District heads back to work on the hill today. One  bill he’s sponsoring pushes to close a loophole that allows convicted sex criminals to avoid placement on sex offender registries. The Track Reoffending Alien Criminals Act requires “unlawfully present alien sex offenders” to be registered on the sex offender registry. Hice says his bill is a response to a Boston Globe investigation that found U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officials had freed criminal alien sex offenders without notifying state law enforcement. Grady Newsource Explains: Jody Hice support of Kim Davis

By: Danielle Herman Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis returned to work Monday morning, amidst a fury of media and chants from supporters. Davis spent five days in jail last week after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, according to CNN. U.S. Congressman Jody Hice (R- Monroe) voiced his support for Davis last week in a statement to the AJC. Hice will speak at the Athens GOP meeting Monday night, set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Country Inn & Suites on Old Epps Bridge Road in Athens.
