Noteworthy is the UGA women’s a Capella group, and Erin Nortarthomas is their secret weapon. She’s a nationally recognized beatboxer that won outstanding vocal percussion for the southern U.S. She’s self-taught; her classroom was her car where she listens to music and practices different sounds.
Charles Sexton, a member of the UGA Accidentals, another glee club, says,“As a female and strong vocal percussionist she sets herself apart. She really brings that oomph to Noteworthy.”
Her artistry goes beyond music. Erin studies photography and ceramics in school, but while she isn’t organizing a flashmob or a photoshoot she’s doing what she loves best: taking care of others.
Erin is a caretaker for Allison Moder, a girl with muscular dystrophy.
Erin says, “I’ve never felt more human or more grounded than when I’m doing stuff for Allison.”
According to Allison, “She helps me with daily living skills, things that tire me out. Dressing, bathing, exercising, anything that I need help with.”
Erin doesn’t know what her future holds- art or caretaking.
“There are so many Plan Bs and there’s no Plan A, but I’m only twenty-one. There’s still time.”
One thing is for sure though. This big-hearted beatboxer has got talent.
