The Nicholson City Council failed to appoint a member to the Nicholson Water Authority board at its meeting last week, with three separate motions dying for the lack of a second.
Council members considered nominees Roger Brock, Larry Turner and Walter Barnett during their Dec. 1 meeting, but none of the motions received the support needed to move forward.
City attorney Jody Campbell explained that without a successful motion, incumbent board member Brock will continue to serve until the council fills the position. Campbell noted that the council may revisit the item at a future meeting.
Council discussion focused on candidate qualifications and highlighted ongoing disagreements over the use of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds versus grants, as well as concerns about the city’s lack of property suitable for a sewer system.
In other business, the Nicholson Public Library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24; Thursday, Dec. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 1, for the holidays.
