Athens, GA
Starbucks across the country, including this one in downtown Athens, are asking signatures from their customers demanding the US re-open the government.
Starbucks spokesman, Tom Kuhn, says the company reached 1,000,000 signatures on the first day alone.
Rodrigo Castaneda is one of them. “I feel it’s great that a cooperation is being so proactive in politics. You don’t see that often and I think it’s great that two worlds are mixing together.”
But not every customer signed. Stephen Hill doesn’t think the petition will work. “The re-open of the government is dependent upon the Republicans and the Democrats of both houses to come to an agreement about the budget. A petition with a bunch of signatures isn’t going to magically make that happen.”
The petition started in the stores last Friday and ended on Sunday, but you can still go to the website cometogetherpetition.com to sign your name.
Starbucks spokesman says he doesn’t know when the company will send the signatures, but he does know they’re going straight to Congress and the White House.
