The Firefly Trail’s 7th annual “Ticket to Ride” event is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The biking event is raising money for the development of the Firefly Trail. The trail is planned to be a 39-mile rail-trail from Athens to Union Point in Northeast Georgia. This will connect Athens-Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Greene counties.

A rail trail is the conversion of a disused railway track into a trail that can be used for walking, running, biking, and more.

The event on Saturday will allow bikers to travel through the proposed route of the Firefly trail. You can access the start of the event from Athens, Winterville, and–for the first time ever–Union Point. Registration is $40.
