ACC Planning Department Works on ‘Backyard Chicken’ Ordinance

ATHENS — The Athens-Clarke County Planning Department is working on the “backyard chicken” ordinance this week — an ordinance that would allow people to keep chickens in residential areas.

Grady Newsource reporter Lauren Pinion is looking into what this could mean for people living in residential areas.

Right now, zoning restrictions keep animals like chickens out of neighborhoods and housing areas. The ordinance will be brought up at Thursday’s planning commission meeting where the public will have the chance to offer some input.  The meeting starts at seven P.M. tomorrow in the auditorium of the Governmental Building at 120 Dougherty Street.
