CASA is calling all volunteers in the area. The Athens-Oconee CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) hosted a volunteer orientation Thursday. A CASA is a trained community volunteer who is appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interests of an abused or neglected child who is in foster care.  The volunteer gathers information about the child, attends their court proceedings, and makes a recommendation to the judge about the child’s future.

“You don’t need to be an expert on court, you don’t need to be an expert on DFACS, just be an expert on the kids” said program coordinator Susie Weller
