Advance voting began today to fill the district 3 seat of the Barrow County Commission. It’s been more than 7 years since Barrow County elected a new district 3 commissioner. However, come election day next Tuesday, that will change. Below is a complete timeline of the events that have led up to the runoff:

  • April 24: Steve Worley sends letter of resignation as district 3 commissioner
  • April 29: Governor Nathan Deal receives the letter and accepts Worley’s resignation
  • May 12: Barrow County Board of Elections and Registration calls for the special election
  • June 1-3: Qualifying for candidates to run for vacant district 3 seat
  • September 15: Election Day, runoff announced that evening
  • October 5-9: Advance voting for run-off. Voting from 8am until 5 pm at board of elections office
  • October 13: Run-off election held. Voting from 7am until 7pm at the Church at Winder
