Light It Up at Sanford Stadium on Saturday

Georgia’s football team hosts Georgia Southern Saturday night, and the lights will be on. Not just the stadium lights.

A couple of Georgia Redcoat members started a Facebook event calling for Georgia fans to turn on their cell phone flashlights right before the fourth quarter begins. The flashlights will be accompanied by the Georgia Redcoats playing the famous “Krypton” as they do before each fourth quarter.

“I had heard of the idea being tried at other events before, and I thought it had a lot of potential in a college stadium setting,” said Kenneth Hubbard, a third-year trumpet player from Marietta, GA. “The whole thing is really just about everyone coming together create something special that hopefully people will be talking about for a long time.”

Hubbard says he quickly convinced the rest of the Georgia Redcoat band to get on board and help promote the event on social media.

“The hashtag #LightItUpSanford was another way to get people talking,” Hubbard adds. “It’s really cool to he how it’s spread around campus so quickly.”

The UGA-Georgia Southern game begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Sanford Stadium.
