Grady Students Come Home After New York City’s Blizzard

The Broadcasting Society of the University of Georgia, DiGamma Kappa, are finally on their way home after being stuck in New York City for the night due to the poor weather conditions left from the massive blizzard that hit the East Coast.

“New York City was fun,” Kaitlin Long, a Digital Broadcast major said, “but I am so ready to come home!”

These Grady journalists arrived in New York City on Wednesday to visit broadcast networks, but because of the blizzard, their flight from New York to Atlanta was cancelled Sunday.

Not only was it very unexpected for Grady Reporter Danielle Lewan, but getting the flu was not something she was planning for either.

“I’m okay, it happens,” she reassured, “but I am so ready!”

But even when an entire city shuts down, for Grady students, even sick ones, the news never stops.

“[New York] is television and media heaven,” Lewan said, “Usually missing school is a bad thing for kids, but reporting on a storm in the top three historic blizzards to hit New York is the best learning for a student like me.”

These Grady students took it to the streets to report on the weather conditions and the courageous New Yorkers braving the cold to clear the streets for travelers.
“The people who volunteered to shovel snow really did risk their lives,” Grady reporter Kaitlin Long said, “they made a huge difference because without them people would have been stuck in their homes.”

“This has been the best networking experience of my life,” Lewan said, “definitely worth it.”
