Remembering “Zippy” Morocco

Anthony “Zippy” Morocco (86), a University of Georgia sports star in the ’50s, committed suicide on Sunday.

Chris Morocco, Zippy’s son, said his father fought with depression and a mental disorder called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Boston University’s CTE center defines CTE as “a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes with a history of repetitive brain trauma…”

His son says his father’s brain will be donated to CTE Research.

Zippy was an All-American basketball and football player.

A mass service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday at 11 am.
