ATHENS, Ga. — Three former Cedar Shoals students will stand trial for felony rape, false imprisonment and child molestation, among other things, sometime next year, according to their lawyer.

All three — Javious Collins, Xavier Clarke and Markel Bannon — pled not guilty to those charges.

An incident report from the Athens Clarke County Police Department alleged that the three students raped a 15-year-old girl on January 7th on Cedar Shoals’ campus.

Collins, Clarke and Bannon weren’t arrested for more than three weeks, and the incident generated controversy in the school system after parents found out through the media that the young men were allowed to stay in school for weeks after the incident was first reported.

The next hearing in the case is on October 12th, where the district attorney’s office and the defense attorneys will meet with Chief Justice David Sweat to see if they’re ready to schedule a trial date.
