Incumbent of Political Office: Johnny Isakson was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, and began his tenure as a U.S. Senator in January 2005. He was re-elected to the Senate in 2010, and has remained incumbent since then.

Experience: Isakson is a businessman with over 40 years of experience in the real estate industry. He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1976, and served seven terms, leaving office in 1990. He was elected to GA Senate in 1992, and served one term. Isakson was appointed head of the GA Sate Board of Education in 1996, and served until 1998. He was a representative in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999 until 2004, and has been incumbent in office as a U.S. Senator since 2005.

Major Platform Points: Isakson believes that to combat foreign terrorism, it is crucial for the U.S. to stand behind what he calls “our closest ally” in the Middle East: Israel. He wants to eliminate “burdensome regulations” to allow workers to find more jobs, and bring a “pro-growth, common-sense” tax reform to relieve American families and business owners. He supports the Second Amendment, and does not support any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants.
