UGA Alumnus Patrick Davenport Runs for Athens Commission

Patrick Davenport was born and raised in Athens. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2009 with a degree in political science.

University of Georgia alumnus, Patrick Davenport, is running for office. Yesterday, Davenport announced his candidacy for District 1 County Commissioner in Athens-Clarke County. Davenport has specific plans for his campaign and plans to help the Athens community.

He says he wants to help people within the community. He has been actively involved in politics for the last six years. Davenport wants to tackle the issues of poverty and living wages. He says this is an issue that is close to him, due to his upbringing.

“Athens has systemically had low poverty rates. Our residents still aren’t making enough pay,” said Davenport.

Davenport believes that by increasing living wages, he can reduce poverty in Athens. If elected, he hopes that his impact will allow him to connect with the people of Athens.

“Commissioners and our mayor aren’t paying attention to the needs of the people. If we improve the lives of those in poverty, we improve the lives of those in wealth,” said Davenport.
