Local Tattoo Event Raises Money For Humane Society

Athens, Ga.– Pain and Wonder Tattoo and the Athens Area Humane Society are teaming up today for “Get Inked for the Animals.”

This is the second time the two have paired up for the event. Their goal is to raise money for animals for adoption and awareness on the importance of spaying and neutering animals.

Evelyn Carr got her very first tattoo at this event  last year; this year she’s adding to it.

“It’s just a general symbol for my love of cats and dogs,” said Evelyn.

Amanda Newsom from the Athens Area Human Society got the idea for a tattoo parlor fundraiser from an episode of L.A. Ink.

“That’s a really great idea! I wonder if it would work in Athens!” she said.

Pain and Wonder tattoo was the first place Amanda reached out to for this fundraiser.

“They approached us last year to do a fundraising event and we accepted and we thought it would be a really good idea,” said tattoo artist Chris Parry.

They’re offering tattoos and piercings, but if you’re not interested in a permanent commitment they also have t-shirts and temporary tattoos.

“The female dogs and cats get a small tattoo on their underbelly so that they can easily tell if they’ve been spayed or not, so it was a really nice connection for that,” Amanda said.

Amanda also said tattoos and pets are both permanent commitments.
