The Georgia Red Cross has been making significant Hurricane Florence relief efforts in the Carolinas. Volunteers throughout Georgia and Athens have made the trek to both North and South Carolina.
The post-storm flood waters have continued to rise in some coastal areas of North Carolina. More than 30 people have died in incidents related to the storm.

Volunteers are helping by replacing medications and crutches, providing spiritual aid and damage assessment. They are also feeding and sheltering these disaster victims.

The Georgia Red Cross manager of communications, Ashley Henyan, said that 46 volunteers were deployed from Georgia, and nine of them came from the Northeast Georgia area.

The Red Cross is currently in need of blood donations for the hurricane victims.

“Already hundreds of blood drives throughout the affected area have been cancelled due to Hurricane Florence,” Henyan said. “That’s a loss of blood and platelet donations that could potentially save lives.”
