National Signing Day Update

By Julie Calhoun

UGA may have dropped down to number 10 in recruiting rankings but UGA singed thirty-two recruits the second largest recruiting class following Texas A and M.  This is the largest recruiting class for Mark Richt to date. Out of those thirty-two recruits UGA signed eighteen defensive players and fourteen offensive players. Some of the major recruits for the dogs were four star safety Tray Matthews and defensive end Davin Bellamy. Bellamy was a big score for the dogs when he picked Georgia over Tennessee.  Mark Richt, UGA’s head football coach had this to say about signing day, “I don’t have any disappointments. Today is a day of celebration for Georgia football. A day of celebration for everyone here and for the players.”  UGA did lose major recruits to like Alvin Kamara and Reuben Foster to Alabama. Ole Miss hasn’t won an SEC title since 1963 but landed the most talked about recruiting class with five star recruits like Robert Nkemdiche and Laremy Tunsil.  “I’d much rather have the guys here mid year and working here today and this spring than having a one time splash from signing day,” said defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.  Although UGA lost Georgia natives like Montravius Adams from Dooley County to Auburn and Alvin Kamara of Norcross they signed twenty- one recruits from Georgia.  Todd Grantham tells how they plan to keep recruits in Georgia, “I think what we’ve got to do is continue to cultivate those relationships and make sure we get the best players in the state to come to Georgia to the university of Georgia.”
