Trayvon Martin Anniversary

ATHENS,GA- The killing of Trayvon Martin was felt not just in Florida, but throughout America, including here in Athens. Students here at UGA say they are still feeling the pain of his death a year later, as today marks its year anniversary. Grady Newsource reporter Meredith Dean reports. Massive protests in Florida is what most people think of when they think about the Trayvon Martin case. But the protests in Athens consisted of dozens of student gathered on Tate Plaza protesting for several hours. And although this protest may have been smaller, the people were just as passionate. UGA students Noemie Tshinanga and Kenny Lewis participated in the protest. They were amazed that there was still racism that exists in this country after doing their research on the case.

Feb. 26, 2012. Many remember this day where the 17 year old was shot and killed while walking home unarmed in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman. A case that became controversial quickly and spurred a racial movement with riots that spread all over the country. But at UGA, one can see that students are truly passionate about this case and this passion will definitely be seen in Zimmerman’s trial in June.
