Before settling into your new place this year, Make sure you know how to keep it safe. Students are moving back to Athens. As the population grows, so does the chance for potential burglaries. One new resident, Avery Gardener had to learn the hard way when her door was kicked in. ” My bedroom is on the first floor so I was pretty close to where it was happening. I then screamed when I heard and they ran out of the house because I don’t think they knew I was home” recalls Gardener.

Her advice?

“Keep a light on and get an alarm system to prevent it from happening.”

UGA Police also give some simple steps to follow. Lock your doors. Set an alarm. Look out for suspicious activity.
