As the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president unfolds, some critics say that nothing will come of it.

Keith Poole, a political science professor at the University of Georgia, shared a similar sentiment.

No, I don’t think it will amount to anything. I think it’ll just make noise,” Poole said.

With the Republicans holding the U.S. Senate 53 to 47, the Democrats must obtain a two-thirds majority to remove the U.S. President.

Political analyst for WSB-TV, Bill Crane, said the impeachment process will make it harder for Democrats to win in the upcoming election cycle.

“This will significantly enrage, engage and spite the president’s base in November of 2020,” Crane said. “Coverage of the impeachment-poolza, particularly by the cable networks and to a lesser extent by major national news daily, will push out coverage of Democratic presidential contenders.”

This comes as good news to Trump who, according to UGA professor Charles Bullock, needs to “hold the South” in order to win the presidency in 2020.
