In just six weeks, a former Athens-Clarke County police dispatcher will appear in court for federal charges. Cynthia Ramirez-Bernal and her husband Darley are scheduled to appear at the Athens federal courthouse on Hancock Avenue on September 30.

Cynthia and Darley Bernal were indicted in June for their involvement in a counterfeit money ring. Darley Bernal is charged with uttering and possessing a portion of the $10,000 in counterfeit bills. The indictment lists the five other people involved in the counterfeit scheme. It also states that the group used $100 bills to make small purchases to receive large amounts of change. This occurred at several Athens locations including Five Points Bottle Shop, Chuck-e-Cheese, Ann Taylor Loft, Barberitos, and the Publix and Kroger on the Eastside.

It is currently unknown if those listed on the indictment will be tried separately or as a group.
