ATHENS, Ga.— The University of Georgia football team hit the practice field for it’s 17th fall practice. Head Coach Mark Richt said the freshman linebacker Leonard Floyd has stood out.

“His head is still spinning learning stuff, but he’s really impressing me with how hard he practices on a daily basis,” said Richt, “He’s going to get better and better because of it.” Georgia’s Head Coach also mentioned that he pointed Floyd out to the whole team for his work ethic.

Praise for the freshman did not stop there as sophomore linebacker Jordan Jenkins why Floyd is so good. “He is really like his nickname ‘Flow’ because he is smooth,” said Jenkins, “He’s real smooth with his moves like that.”

UGA is now two weeks away from it’s opening weekend match up verses Clemson. Several defensive players mentioned they are ready to get on the field and play. Coach Richt also echoed that being seventeen practices in with two weeks to go can be tough. “It’s a litte bit like Groundhogs Day,” said Richt, “You know there is some good energy out there, good enthusiasm.”

Former NBA head coach and current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy was in attendance, along with UGA basketball coach Mark Fox.

Freshman Safety Tray Matthews was in a non-contact jersey again today. Two other players in non-contact jerseys were wide reciever Chris Conley and defensive back Marc Deas.

Georgia will face the Clemson Tigers on August 31st at 8pm. It will be a nationally televised game and ESPN’s College Gameday will be on location for the match up.
