March on Washington 50th Anniversary

On this day in 1963, a quarter of a million people took to the streets.

They walked for civil rights legislation. They walked for jobs. They walked for the elimination of segregation.

And from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, echoed some of the most famous words in American History.

Fast forward 50 years.

Marvin J. Nunnally of the Athens NAACP, explained what today means to him.

“This is the fiftieth anniversary of, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable speeches in the century,” Nunnally says. “We need to still talk about change because it’s still not there, has not been fulfilled in 2013, some fifty years later.”
