UPDATE: Working Through the Night

Athens, GA – It will be an unusual night for Kevin Gentry. His bed is now in his work office at the ACC Streets and Drainage department, at least for tonight. Looks like his wife was right.

He is still uncertain if the worst of the storm has passed. With 1-3 inches of sleet/snow possible tonight, his workers are ready for the worst. The worst could mean downed trees, which could happen if the ice continues to build on limbs and branches. Report a downed tree immediately to the police, and crews will be there as soon as possible. There has only been one report, he says, of a tree down, and it has been cleared. He wants to keep it that way.

They spent the day laying sand. Their job, he says, is a little more difficult at night, which is a good reason to stay off the roads tonight especially.

As for him, he will have to stay the night in his office, along with everyone else there, since road conditions are even too dangerous for him to drive on. There is a good possibility he will be staying there tomorrow night as well.

The next round of workers have come in and will work through the night to keep the roads as safe as possible. But for the one millionth time, DO NOT drive if you don’t have to.
