Athens, GA – Landfills take up space and affect the local community. UGA is looking to improve its green footprint by composting its leftover foods instead of sending it to the landfill. Currently UGA is composting 10,000 pounds per week.

“We’re not sending stuff to the landfill,” UGA Director of Sustainability Kevin Kirsche. ” We’re instead taking that and making a valuable soil and creating a more lush and green growing, living environment here on campus and in the local community.”

Currently UGA’s dining halls are the main contributors to the composting, however, UGA plans to extend this to other buildings in the future.
