Chief Williamson says police training paid off

Athens, GA – University of Georgia Police Chief Jimmy Williamson says that police training paid off during a campus safety threat on Friday.  He adds that social media also helped local police handle the situation.

Chief Williamson also offered several tips to students to help them protect themselves.

  • Think about escape options upon entering a room
  • Consider secondary escape options such as windows in case primary options (such as doors) become unavailable.
  • Ultimately, it is up to the individual to know their own safety plans.

Coming up at 5pm, you’ll hear more from Chief Williamson about the aftermath to the situation. Allison Morrow will also tell you about the public reaction to Friday’s activity. Click here for more information on what exactly happened throughout the day.
