It happens every year: Children come home from a long night of trick or treating and find themselves with more candy than they could ever eat. However, there is good news.

Athens Family Dental off of Old Jefferson Road will be buying back Halloween Candy this year. For every pound of candy donated, a child will receive $1. That’s about 30 pieces of medium-sized chocolate candy.

All of the candy Athens Family Dental collects will then be shipped to U.S. troops overseas.

This is the office’s fifth year offering candy buyback, and they have no plans on stopping.

“It’s supporting our troops; it’s very meaningful as far as showing our support to them,” Ortho Treatment Coordinator Melanie Pritchett said.

They collect about 50 pounds of candy every year, but they hope that number will grow.

Athens Family Dental will start accepting donations during their office hours Nov. 1, and they will be collecting candy for two weeks.
