ACC gets an A+ for road clearance, says Streets and Drainage Superintendent

ATHENS – Kevin Gentry would give his team an A+.

“It’s the government as a whole,” says the Superintendent of Streets and Drainage for Athens-Clarke County.

He gives them this top grade for dealing with Tuesday’s snowstorm, which brought ice to the roads. But by Wednesday evening, roads were completely clear, and safe to travel.

Nature helped, too. Conditions in Atlanta were colder, and traffic was heavier.

Something else that was different – their use of sand. Streets and Drainage does not use salt because it’s expensive, and damaging to roads, cars and the environment.
