High School Signing Day

While there are dozens of athletes coming to Athens to extend their careers, several local student athletes are leaving the town to be able to fufill dreams of their own.

Two local high school students signed with their top schools today.

Bobby Marshburn shared this special day with his parents and friends signing his acceptance to his first choice, the Naval Academy football team.

Athens Academy Football coach Michael Gunn said, “This was a credit to him not what we’ve done and he worked hard in and out of the classroom and I think hes going for the right reasons and for that i think its great for our program that hes able to go and do something like this”

Mashburn said, “I was looking to go to Georgia, not necessarily to play but uh there were some other schools that i talked to but navy was my top choice.”

Cedar Shoals high school showed a lot of school spirit and support as well for L’Keith Brown, a football star who signed with Tusculum College in Tennessee.

L’Keith Browns father said, “I’m ecstatic, I’m proud, I mean it is a fathers dream, next hopefully the NFL.

Even though today is the biggest day and the most hyped of the signing period, highschool seniors are allowed to sign all the way untill the first day of fall practice.

Two girl soccer players from Oconee high school signed with UNC Pembroke and Valdosta State today as well.
