Weekend Sports Recap

It was a busy weekend for UGA Athletics, with women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, and men’s basketball teams all emerging victorious, while the women’s basketball team as fell to LSU.

The women’s swimming and diving team defeated the 12th ranked Tennessee Volunteers for their 99th consecutive home victory, their 100th overall. The Lady Bulldogs have not lost a meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium since November 8th, 1995.

The Lady Bulldogs basketball team welcomed LSU to Stegeman Coliseum yesterday, but failed to send the Tigers back to Louisiana with a loss. The Lady Bulldogs lost 53-46, falling to 2-5 in Southeastern Conference play.

The tennis team took on UC Barbara on Saturday and Memphis on Sunday, defeating both to earn an invitation to the ITA Team Indoor Championships in February. The 6th ranked Bulldogs will be one of 16 teams competing in the Championship tournament.

The men’s basketball team edged the Arkansas Razorbacks Saturday night in overtime, winning 76-73. J.J.Frazier scored 26 points, while Yante Maten added 17 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of imagethe season. There was also some extra buzz at Stegeman Coliseum, but it had nothing to do with the action on the court. Head football coach Kirby Smart was also in attendance and spoke to the crowd at halftime.
