Wet Weather Washes Wednesday Intramural Championship

After nearly a month and a half without rain, the storms have finally moved in and soaked all of North East Georgia. Which is great for most of us!

Unless you have a once in a lifetime chance to play football in Sanford Stadium Wednesday.

Case in point: the UGA Intramural Flag Football Finalists.

These talented athletic amateurs have competed against the best of the best that UGA has to offer in flag football prowess to earn a chance to compete for the ultimate prize: The Flag Football Championship. The games were scheduled for this Wednesday, November 30th between the hedges, under the lights in Sanford Stadium.

Those dreams and events were threatened when a strong storm cell moved in the area and pummeled the Athens area with almost an inch and a half of rain on Tuesday alone. Add that to continued harder rainfall on  Wednesday, and that spells a recipe for mud and destroyed turf.

Taking that into account, UGA Recreational Sports has decided to reschedule the championship games for Thursday, December 1st, allowing the field to dry and become hospitable for the competing athletes. The matches are scheduled to start at 5pm.
