It’s Women’s History month at the University of Georgia and students such as Savannah Cole, the social chair for the Women’s Studies Student Organization, is excited to celebrate the power of women.
Cole became involved in the Women’s Studies Student Organization when she came to UGA her freshman year.
“I just started going to the meetings. I knew it was something I liked but always had schedule conflicts to take the classes.”, explained Cole, “And now I am on the board.”
The Women’s Student Organization meets to talk about feminine issues regarding gender equality, domestic abuse, and problems the members have faced in the past.
The organization is spending Women’s history month preparing for their annual event, Take Back the Night, in April.
This event will include empowering speakers, music, free food, and a march to The Arch followed by a candlelit vigil for survivors of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Cole explains, “Even if you aren’t connected to women’s studies, it’s still a really beautiful thing to come out and see.”
The event will take place on April 8th at Nuci’s Space, but women’s history month is all month long.
