2016 is the first year Iowa used a “tele-caucus”…a method that allows U. S. citizens living out of the country…to vote at home. But that’s not how the Georgia primary will work for Americans living abroad who want to vote.
Georgia requires people to send in an absentee ballot, by mail only. Students, military men and women…even Peace Corps volunteers cannot vote in the GA presidential primary if they missed the absentee ballot deadline. We spoke to two University of Georgia students studying in Spain… Jay Keen and Sam McCoy, who are both political science majors and have a tough time understanding how voters could vote online in the Iowa caucus…but they can’t in their own Georgia primary.
“I would have loved to been able to contribute. It’s definitely very frustrating with the modern world we live in today. I wish we could do it in every state even though they are two different things. You can do everything else online..just wish you can do that. Especially since we are in a foreign country”, Sam McCoy said.
