5 Things to Know September 29

ATHENS, Ga- Happy fall! Milledge Avenue Baptist Church is having its annual pumpkin sale. The profits will fund outreach programs within the church community. Some of the profits also go to a Native American reserve in New Mexico. Reporter Michael Foo will have more on the church’s fall pumpkin sale here.

MADISON CO, Ga- No men have signed up for the shooting safety class that Madison County is offering. Both men and women are encouraged to sign up for these self-defense classes if they live or work in the area, but no men have signed up yet. Reporter Ally Laukhuf has more on the story here.

ATHENS, Ga- Georgia is a leader in the battle to reform sentencing requirements for non-violent drug offense charges. It would drop the State’s prison population. Georgia’s prison population has fallen almost 5000 since Governor Deal established a Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform for Georgia in 2011 to address the issues. ATHENS, Ga- UGA sophomore, Kaitlin Long was hit by a car on the crosswalk between Busbee Hall and the East Campus Village bus stop on September 16th. Long suffered a concussion as well as other minor injuries. This is not the first pedestrian accident this semester. What is UGA doing to prevent these accidents?
