150 students from Clarke Madison Baldwin and Jackson county as well as Barrow will attend the new Foothills Education Charter High School.

The Barrow County Board of Education approved a new night time charter school for high school students Tuesday. When the school opens it will hold 150 Barrow County students. The Superintendent of the new school is UGA’s Sherrie Gibney-Sherman, from the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy. The School day will run from 4:00-9:00pm and be held in an existing Barrow County School building.

The Board of Education will recruit students in the community to participate in the night time program. The Board is targeting recent high school drop-outs, people who are in danger of aging out of high school eligibility, and students at a high risk for not graduating. Any other open spots will be taken by students who have self-selected themselves for the program if they prefer night school over the traditional school day. Reporter Jacob Blount will bring us the developments on the new school throughout the day.
