The primary school originally had grades pre-k through second, and the elementary school had third through fifth. The primary school is now closed, and the West Jackson Elementary School holds grades pre-k through fifth.

In addition to the school demolition, the millage rate is being reduced.

“Because the value of properties has increased, we are able to roll back the millage rates without decreasing revenue,” explains April Howard, superintendent of Jackson County schools.

The Jackson County Board of Education made some big changes at their 7:30 am meeting today.

No members of the public were present at the 7:30 a.m. meeting; however, Superintendent Howard says that they have run these plans in the papers for weeks and have heard no opposition.
