#OscarsSoWhite Hashtag has Impact on UGA’s Campus

ATHENS, Ga. — Chris Rock’s monologue at the Oscars hit the topic of race hard — so hard that even students at the University of Georgia paid close attention.

The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite went viral quickly in light of the fact that zero people of color were nominated for an Oscar the second year in a row, and rather than black celebrities boycotting the event as a whole, they used their platform to handle the racial controversy head on.
