150-Year-Old Tree Gets Short End of Stick

A tree that may have stood for more  than 150 years is gone. Today, workers finished taking down the Heritage Oak Willow  from the lawn of the Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens, Georgia. The tree was so massive it took workers two days to finish the job.

Lyndon Arts Center Program Supervisor Didi Dunphy said the tree was essential to the happiness of the neighborhood, but she’s looking forward to the new role the tree will play in the arts community.

“As time goes on we will be bringing elements of the tree back into the arts center through arts projects and other sorts of outreach activities.”

Though the majority of the tree has been removed, planners left the stump so the tree can always remain a part of the property.
