The University of Georgia Caribbean Student Association (CaribSA) will host its annual cultural night this Friday and Saturday at Morton Theater from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The night will feature a play, fashion show, and cultural dances like the one shown below in order to highlight a topic relevant to Caribbean people and culture.. Although Caribbean Night is a night of fun and celebration, the night of performances is means much more to the members of the organization. Demour Breen, the historian of the organization says Caribbean Night is important because it helps educate others about Caribbean culture and issues in a different outlet.

“That’s the main reason we have Caribbean Night every year, to sort of feed information in a different outlet and to also celebrate. Every year the play highlights different issues going on in the Caribbean. Last year we dealt with corruption and skin bleaching. This year our show is about sex trafficking which isn’t talked about a lot in the Caribbean,” says Breen.
Along with helping create promotional videos and plan the event, Breen will also model and dance on stage at the event this weekend, which makes her feel very proud.
“Being Caribbean, it means a lot to be able to showcase my culture, represent my island and hold my flag on stage,” Breen says.
Food will be served at 6 p.m. before the show. Tickets are required to attend.
