A battle between the east Athens schools versus west Athens schools starts tonight at the Georgia indoor facility. The Special Olympics at the University of Georgia hosts its ninth Hometown Rivals baseball game.
UGA athletes from the football, swimming and diving, baseball and equestrian teams will participate in the battle with more than 80 Special Olympics athletes.
Georgia football player Jackson Harris is among the athletes volunteering for the game. He’s been involved his entire time at Georgia.
“It’s always a good time,” Harris said. “I’m excited to come out here and play some ball.”
Early today, the Hilsman Middle School athletes practiced for tonight’s game. Hilsman athlete Sam said she’s nervous to be around college athletes but is excited at the same time.
Sam’s plan for tonight is to ‘have fun and just go be myself.’
The first pitch will be at 6 p.m tonight.
