Clarke County HS Student Slowly Recovering from Brain Injury

Athens, GA–  Grace Byrne is on the road to recovery after she was struck by a Jeep earlier this month, causing a brain injury.
Earlier today, her family shared the news that her eyes are open, though she’s not tracking images yet. They are also playing music and messages recorded by friends for her.

Grace is currently at Athens Regional Medical Center, but once the time is right they do plan on moving her to the Shepard Center in Atlanta. Her family has been keeping family and friends informed via a Facebook page called “Walnuts for Grace“.

Many members of the community are carrying walnuts in their purses or pockets in honor of Grace. The walnut represent’s her brain and the family asks people to say a prayer every time they feel the walnut.

Grace is a senior at Clarke County High School and was involved in many sports.

A donation fund has been set up at the Athens First Bank and Trust. At this time, the donations and contributions are NOT tax refundable. For more information on where to send the money, visit Walnuts-for-Grace’s Facebook page.
