In this age of technology and lightning-fast information, some people may find it difficult to connect to one another.

Third-year communications sciences and disorders student Sydney Loverde started the Overheard at UGA Facebook page two years ago in order to create an online community amongst the University of Georgia student body.

“We started it just to be funny and so that people could have a way to talk to each other about things going on around campus and things that people share. Overall, our main goal was to create more community on campus,” Loverde said.

The Overheard at UGA Facebook page boasts over 14 thousand members. Users post funny comments about things they “overheard” on the University of Georgia campus. Other people post about more serious topics such as campus safety concerns.

“In regards to safety issues, I’m glad people are posting about it so more people are seeing it,” Loverde said.

Astrophysics major Conor McFerren finds the Overheard at UGA Facebook page to be helpful.

“I love how relatable it is,” he said. “It’s the funny moments of your everyday life at UGA. It gives you a little bit of humor in the everyday thing you do.”

The Overheard at UGA Facebook page continues to grow in number daily. Loverde hopes to continue to moderate the Overheard page if she stays at the University of Georgia to pursue a graduate degree.

Whether Overheard brings joy or keeps people safe, this Facebook page seems to make going to school at UGA a little more interesting for the Bulldogs.
