Former Bulldogs Work Out at UGA Pro Day

The University of Georgia football team had 21 former players work out in front of NFL scouts, coaches and general managers on Pro Day Wednesday. All 32 NFL teams had representatives in attendance.

“Certainly it helps our program when you have the likes of all these organizations on your campus, and the NFL Network covers the event,” head coach Kirby Smart said. “I think that speaks volumes to who you’re becoming.”

Pro Day was a chance for athletes to show off their skills in hopes of landing on an NFL roster soon. Players completed a variety of workouts including bench press, broad jump, vertical jump, 40-yard dash and other tests, along with position-specific drills.

Nine of the players attending Pro Day completed workouts at the NFL Combine earlier this month, but still worked out to try to improve their results. Former Bulldog tight end Isaac Nauta was disappointed after his NFL Combine efforts, particularly his 40-yard dash time, but he left Pro Day satisfied.

“I hit what I wanted to hit, so I’m happy with today,” Nauta said.

One player who thrived at the combine was former Bulldog defensive back Deandre Baker. However, Baker still decided to work out on Pro Day to give himself extra practice in front of NFL scouts. He is expected to be picked in the first round of the NFL Draft.

“You know it’s kind of exciting because the draft is coming up April 25, so that’s the biggest day of my life,” Baker said. “That’s what I’ve been waiting on, so I’m looking forward to that.”

The NFL Draft will be held in Nashville, Tennessee on April 25-27.
